Glucose 5 hour tolerance
|Specimen type:||Serum or plasma|
|Container:||Serum (red) gel or lithium heparin (green) gel|
|Specimen volume:||0.3 mL|
A fasting sample is drawn first. The patient is then given a 75g glucose drink. The drink should be finished within 5 minutes. Specimens are drawn 1 hour, 2 hours, 3 hours, 5 hours, and 5 hours after the glucose was given.
