Memorial and honorarium gifts
Memorial gifts represent a heartfelt way to honor or remember a loved one by giving a gift in his or her name to a Sanford Health program or service that meant a lot to that person, a few examples include hospice care, cancer research, Sanford Health College of Nursing, a specific scholarship fund, neonatal intensive care unit, Give to Life programs or the General Fund which goes toward the Hospital's most urgent needs. Memorials can be given in sympathy or remembrance.
Honorariums can be given in honor of a special person. For example, you could give a gift in honor of a doctor who saved your life or saved the life of someone in your family. You could give an honorarium for a nurse who gave you or a family member extraordinary care, or it could be in honor of a family or friend. Honorariums are sincere reminders of how much you care. They can also serve to commemorate a special occasion like a birthday or anniversary.
The Sanford Health Foundation will acknowledge your tribute gift by sending an appropriate note to the family or friend in whose name the gift was made if you so desire. To do so, please send the Foundation the name and address of the family or friend the note should be addressed to. The amount of your gift will not be mentioned. A separate receipt will be mailed to you. Also, please let the Foundation know which fund the gift should be put toward.

Stocks and securities
Sanford Health always appreciates receiving a gift of stock to benefit any Sanford Health program or service. Stocks and securities are one of the most common ways to make a gift. The easiest method of transferring your stock ownership is to notify your broker that you wish to transfer the stock to the Sanford Health Foundation.
Tax benefits of donating this way may include:
To transfer stock ownership to the Sanford Health Foundation, contact your broker. Ask him or her to contact the Sanford Health Foundation at (701) 323-8450 or firstname.lastname@example.org to make sure you receive all available tax benefits.
Because there is sometimes more than one gift being transferred at the same time, it is helpful to let the Foundation know the following to assure your gift of stocks is credited appropriately.
All stock transfers are to be made through:
The DTC number, required for such transfers, is DTC 0141.
It is our policy to sell stock transfer gifts immediately upon receivership. You, as the donor, will earn the value of stock upon transfer (for tax purposes.)
When the Foundation receives notification of the transfer, we will provide you with a statement that reflects the amount of the gift per IRS guidelines.501c3 letter
Charitable gift annuities

North Dakota taxpayers earn credit for gifts to endowments
Barely a handful of states offer charitable tax credits of any kind, and only one other state offers credits similar to what North Dakota now offers. This tax credit makes it possible for individuals and financial institutions to give more, and through their contributions, have a greater impact on the state's quality of life.
What is an endowment?
A qualified endowment is defined as an "irrevocable fund held by a North Dakota incorporated or established organization that is a qualified non-profit organization; or a bank or trust company holding the fund on behalf of a qualified non-profit organization." An endowment is a fund held by a tax-exempt organization where the principal of the fund is not expendable. Only the interest and appreciation earned in an endowment fund can be used for current operations.
Businesses and financial institutions (C corporations, S corporations, estates, limited liability companies and trusts) that make gifts to qualified endowments may qualify for a state income tax credit, which amounts to 40 percent of the value of the gift, up to a maximum credit of $10,000 per year. Business may carry forward any unused credit for up to three taxable years.
What are the donor benefits?
Planned gifts by individuals qualify for an income tax credit of 40 percent for gifts up to $10,000 per person, or $20,000 for a married couple with any unused credit to carry forward three years. This tax credit for planned gifts is also unique to North Dakota and gives North Dakotans a remarkable opportunity to make meaningful gifts to their favorite charities and get significant reduction in their income tax bills.
An individual may receive a 40 percent tax credit for contributions of $5,000 or more (lump sum or aggregate in one year) to a single qualified North Dakota endowment.
